One of our favorite opinion columnists, John Sutter, over at CNN has written a well timed piece opening the debate to discussion as to whether we need, or will ever have again a middle class president. An excellent question considering that we are now gearing up for and getting all the rumors as to who will be running. All of the candidates will of course be trying their very hardest to convince us all that they a) are men / women of the people, just like you and I and everyone else and that b) they know what is best for us and have the path forward to making our country great again.
As never before this Presidential election promises to be the biggest and most well oiled, with money, election we’ve probably ever had – the Koch brothers have already tossed down just shy of a billion dollars to prop up the candidates who will tow their line. Hillary of course has The Clinton Foundation which has a couple hundred million in the bank for itself and has already raised more than a billion in its lifetime.
As Sutter points out, just about every candidate so far has a net worth well above $1 million, while that’s not nearly as much as it used to be, it’s still more than most American’s who will be voting. To we need, should we have a middle class President? Does it matter?
Lets stay tuned and see how this all pans out in the next 18 some odd months.
