With the passing of the Cannes Festival behind us, our thoughts linger still towards the rest of the summer to be out in the South Of France and all those other who made it so glamorous before us. Here we dug up an old interview with the Actor David Niven before he passed away, which became the book, David Niven: The Man Behind The Balloon by Michael Munn.
It seems that on his death bed, or as he knew time was running out, he summoned for his final biographical confession, that of the lurid tales of his self proclaimed sex addiction – “I’ve been addicted to sex ever since,” he told Michael Munn, the trusted biographer he summoned in his dying years. In his time he romanced actresses Loretta Young, Grace Kelly, Rita Hayworth and Merle Oberon, as well as the beautiful Princess Marina and even Princess Margaret.”
Niven continued, to Munn, “One girl I met at a party was called Marilyn Monroe. I don’t remember anything about how I met her except that it was at a party where I got terribly drunk. I only remember waking up in the morning in a friend’s bedroom with the worst hangover and lying next to me was Marilyn Monroe.”
You can read the rest of the article over at The Sunday Express, while these days, in the age of the bland celebrity sex-tape, having and admitting to a sex addiction is hardly anything surprising, but for some reason we found the interview and story somewhat sad, so much as that Niven admits his undying love for his first wife Primula Rollo who died at such a young age. A genius actor and grand character. We still miss you and when all of our readers are out by a pool this summer, why not pick up the book and take a stroll down memory lane.
