Try and think of a Climate Skeptic and then put a face to that person, inevitably it comes up as some crazed Republican oil baron, or some daffy clown. For the large percentage of well informed individuals out there it seems almost inconceivable that any intelligent human being should be doubtful of the effects and science behind climate change, but yet, the media continues to pump up the fight between The Whacky Ty-dyed liberal loonies who will destroy modern society with they solar panels and wind turbines and the maniacal greedy wall street loving conservatives who will destroy modern society with their thirst for profit. Sheesh, is everybody completely crazy? Why do we all have to be so polarized? What are those who are skeptics really thinking and who are they?
Well, here’s a great piece from John Sutter over at CNN who visited Woodward County, Oklahoma, which ties with six others for the highest rate of climate skepticism in the country. While we are guilty in many of our posts here of poaching content to beef up our word count, it would be a grave injustice to not read the whole article, it’s quite lengthy, although funny enough, if you also watch the video, at least we came away with the thought that we may all disagree on some of the bigger points (dinosaurs did not give piggy backs to little kids 5,000 years ago), we do mostly agree that the planet and the land under our feet is our responsibility to protect.
I’m cool with all of that. The people who gave their opinions and spoke to Sutter, we’re not all that far off.
